Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the Youmory app and the website at youmory.app. By using either, you agree to them. If you do not, do not use Youmory.
Youmory is operated by Ferdinand Valentin Obermeier, Helmut-Schmidt-Allee 31, 81248 München, Germany (“we”, “us”). Contact: support@youmory.app.
1. Your licence to use Youmory
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Youmory for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You must be 13 or older. If you are between 13 and 17, you need your parent or guardian’s permission first.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
2. What you may not do
Do not use Youmory to harass, threaten, impersonate or abuse anyone. Do not upload anything unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit involving minors. Do not reverse-engineer the app, hammer our servers, or try to reach data that is not yours.
Do not falsify your location to claim places you have not been. Check-ins are meant to record where you actually went; that is the entire point of the collection.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
3. Your content
Anything you write, draw, or upload — postcard messages, drawings, your display name, your profile picture — is yours. You keep every right you had in it.
You grant us the licence we need to run the service: to store your content, to show it to you on your devices, and to deliver it to the person you send it to. That licence exists only to operate Youmory. We do not use your content for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models.
You are responsible for what you write. Do not put anything on a postcard that you would not want read by the person you send it to — or, if you share it by link, by anyone who ends up holding that link.
4. Postcard artwork and AI
Every piece of postcard artwork in Youmory is generated by artificial intelligence. It is not photography and it was not drawn by a human illustrator.
Because it is machine-generated:
- It may be inaccurate. Landmarks may be misplaced, skylines rearranged, details invented. It is an illustration inspired by a place, not a record of one.
- We cannot promise a particular place is drawn. The catalogue covers a large part of the world and grows, but it is not complete, and we do not promise artwork for any particular place or that a place you check into will be drawn within any period of time. Checking in records the place either way.
- Artwork is licensed to you, not sold. You may keep, save and share the postcards you collect for personal, non-commercial use — including posting them on social media. You may not sell them, use them in a commercial product, or present them as your own work or as a photograph.
We may withdraw or replace a piece of artwork if it turns out to be offensive, infringing, or wrong in a way that matters. If a place’s artwork changes, the postcards you already collected keep the version you collected.
5. Sharing a postcard by link
Youmory lets you turn a postcard into a link that anyone can open, including people without the app.
Before you use it, understand what it does: the page that link opens shows the front of the card, the place, and your first name, to anyone who has the link. It does not show your message or your drawing — those need the app and an account. A link is not a password. If it is forwarded or posted publicly, everyone who sees it can open the page.
A link stops working thirty days after you create it, or as soon as someone claims the card, whichever is first. Only the first person to open it in the app keeps the card. You can take a postcard back at any time before it is claimed, which kills the link.
By sharing a link you confirm you are content for that first name, place and image to be shown on a public web page. If you would rather not, send the postcard to a friend inside the app instead — that involves no web page.
6. Youmory Pro
Youmory is free to use for checking in, collecting the places that have been drawn, and sending postcards. Youmory Pro is an optional subscription that adds every piece of artwork a place has beyond its cover card, downloading artwork to your photos, and the full set of pen cases and stamps. Individual places can also be unlocked one at a time, without a subscription, with unlock packs bought in the app. An unlock is permanent for viewing and downloading that place’s artwork, and carries one credit for sending a card from it.
Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and are managed there:
- Payment is charged to your store account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. You do this in your App Store or Google Play account settings, not in Youmory.
- Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends.
- We do not process or see your payment details.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. We cannot issue them.
- Prices may change. You will be told before a change affects you.
Your statutory rights as a consumer in the EU are not affected by any of this.
7. Availability
Youmory is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular place will be available to check into. We may change or discontinue features.
Youmory depends on services we do not control, including Apple, Google, and our hosting and database providers. An outage in one of them is an outage in Youmory.
8. Our liability
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under German law. Under the German Product Liability Act, liability remains unaffected.
Otherwise: we are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence. For slight negligence, we are liable only where we breach an obligation essential to the purpose of the contract, and then only for the foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract.
Youmory is a travel diary. Do not rely on it for navigation, for proof of where you were, or for anything where being wrong matters.
9. Ending it
You may stop using Youmory and delete your account at any time from the app’s settings. Deleting your account erases your profile, check-ins, collections, postcards and friendships, and cannot be undone. An active subscription must be cancelled separately in the App Store or Google Play — deleting your account does not cancel it.
We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or if we stop running Youmory.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect; continuing to use Youmory after that means you accept them.
11. Governing law
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live.
12. Apple’s terms
If you got Youmory from the App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies, and the following are part of these terms:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Youmory or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support for Youmory.
- If Youmory fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for any claim relating to Youmory, including product liability, legal compliance, or consumer protection claims.
- If a third party claims Youmory infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for defending that claim.
- You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo, and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

13. If part of this is unenforceable
If a court finds any part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force.
